Nelson Mandela was without doubt one of the most outstanding personalities of the 20th century. His fight for freedom, against apartheid, oppression and social injustice not only brought him 27 years in prison as a political prisoner, but also the Nobel Peace Prize (1993) and the position as the first black president of South Africa.
On 18 July this year, he would have been 100 years old. The annual day of remembrance, initiated by the United Nations, appeals to take responsibility and improve the world step by step.
"Take action. Inspire change!" is the motto for the Mandela Day celebration in Vienna - a walk including public reading, lectures on the life and achievements of Nelson Mandela and much music.
