Mission Anti-Rabies

VSF Austria vaccinates dogs in Africa against rabies and thus protects animals and humans from this deadly virus.

Rabies in a nutshell:

  • Rabies kills around 59,000 people every year.
  • In Tanzania alone 1,500 people die every year from rabies.
  • 40 % of the fatalities are children.
  • Around 99 % of human cases are caused by bites from infected dogs.
  • A vaccination against rabies is a 100 % protection from the virus.

We cordially thank Boehringer Ingelheim for donating the vaccines!

World Rabies Day 2022

On World Rabies Day 2022 we inoculated 2,927 dogs against this deadly virus in cooperation with Animal Health Centres all over Tanzania.
