In Ukraine, not only people are suffering, but also thousands of dogs that have lost their homes. Without food, shelter or medical care, they are fighting for survival. With our Care for Dogs project, we are offering these dogs urgently needed help.

On World Rabies Day, let's remember the 59,000 people who die of rabies each year. Veterinarians without Borders is raising awareness among people in affected regions and vaccinating stray dogs to fight this dangerous disease. Join us in saving lives!

About our project Mission Anti-Rabies

From October 7 to 13, 2024 vets will vaccinate pets as usual and donate half of the vaccination proceeds to Veterinarians without Borders. This year the donations will go to our project CARE 4 DOGS - Medical care for street dogs.

As part of the opening of the vernissage of the visual artist Guido Rupp, alias "GuRu", paintings were auctioned off for the benefit of our Care 4 Dogs aid project. The evening was hosted by art expert Markus Hübl. The proceeds from the auction will benefit street dogs in crisis areas such as Ukraine and large parts of Africa. We collect donations of medicines, work with dedicated local animal welfare organizations and treat dogs directly on site. Our focus areas for next year are Eastern Europe, East Africa and the Asian region.

Not only humans, but also parasitic diseases contribute to the suffering of street dogs. Fleas, ticks and mites can transmit dangerous pathogens.

Worldwide, there are 59,000 humane deaths per year. In Tanzania alone, 1,500 people die each year. 40% of the fatalities are children. Rabies is 99% transmitted through dog bites. Rabies is 100% preventable through vaccination.
