Escape, hunger, armed conflicts, exploitation and poverty. These slogans only roughly describe the humanitarian challenges and pressing problems the African continent has to face. Africa Day is to commemorate the founding of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in 1963. This alliance was followed in 2002 by the African Union (AU), which has 55 member states today.
